A team of 15 from New York-based Keegan Ales mixed business with pleasure when they took part in the Butterfield & Vallis 5K road race on Sunday.

The brewery has been promoting its products on the island. Butterfield & Vallis is its on-island distribution partner.

Tommy Keegan, owner and brewmaster at Keegan Ales, learnt about the race in October during a visit to the island to meet with Butterfield & Vallis’s chief executive officer Spencer Butterfield and Alun Hughes, general manager of the food service division.

Mr Keegan joked at the time that he might bring the brewery’s running club, the Keegan Army, to participate in the road race.

When the members of the club heard about the race they jumped at the opportunity to visit Bermuda and support the community event. Visiting the island also allowed them to meet with some of the island’s bar and restaurant operators to promote Keegan Ales.

The team wore Keegan Army T-shirts as they joined the hundreds of runners and walkers at the weekend event. Mr Keegan finished the 3.1-mile race in 32 minutes, and said: “It was tough with the humidity, and it’s a little hillier than it is in Kingston, New York.”
